Frequently Asked Questions
What is interval data?
Team OZ Solar2025-01-10T19:31:03+00:00Interval data, recorded by your smart meter at 15- or 30-minute intervals, provides detailed insights into your power usage. You can request this data as a .csv file from your retailer. Using this, our designers can accurately model solar performance and provide precise financial calculations based on historical usage. While typically used for larger commercial projects, we’re happy to include this analysis in your quote if you provide the file.
Can you estimate my power output and financial savings if I want to invest solar system?
Team OZ Solar2025-01-10T19:29:48+00:00Yes, we can estimate your solar savings based on the number of panels, the inverter, and your electricity bills.
Your bill shows your rate plan, monthly consumption, and sometimes usage patterns, allowing for a more accurate analysis.
We can also check if you're overpaying for electricity and recommend better plans. Combined with solar, this can significantly reduce your power bill.
Will the installation involve any significant alterations to my house?
Team OZ Solar2025-01-10T19:27:35+00:00Solar hardware is installed with minimal impact on your home. Frames are mounted directly on tin roofs, while tile roofs require a few tiles to be removed and replaced after mounting. Cables are typically run inside the roof, walls, or underfloor, with external conduits used only as a last resort. DC cables must be in metal conduit if inside walls, which may sometimes require external placement. We inform you of any such requirements well before installation.
Are the panels fragile?
Team OZ Solar2025-01-10T19:27:39+00:00Solar panels are designed to withstand harsh weather, including hail, with durable anodized aluminum frames. Significant damage is rare, typically from extreme hail or lightning. Proper installation is crucial to avoid micro-fractures in the silicon, which can shorten the panel's lifespan.
SunPower panels, with back-of-cell tracks, are exceptionally durable and maintain energy production under stress.
What sort of warranties does the system have? And why are they important?
Team OZ Solar2025-01-10T19:27:43+00:00In the industry for the past 18+ years, we offer a 10-year warranty on system installation.
Product warranties range from 5 to 25 years, with a minimum 10-year warranty on solar panels.
When selecting components, ensure warranties align with the company’s longevity to guarantee support if issues arise.
What sort of roof can solar be installed on?
Team OZ Solar2025-01-10T19:27:49+00:00A technical inspection is not always needed before installing your solar system. However, to avoid issues on the day of installation and added costs to your systems installation, we advise opting for a technical inspection prior to your install.
The technical inspection most commonly involves:
- Identifying the level of safety measures that must be implemented for installers to safely access and install the solar system.
- Identifying any access issues to the residential property and roof.
- Inspecting the switchboard and assessing if there is a need for an upgrade prior to installation.
- Assessing the roof condition for installers and solar system designer.
- Finding the best location for the inverter to best protect the product.
- Clearly defining cable routes for the solar system Identifying if there is asbestos at the property.
Do I need to clean or maintain the panels?
Team OZ Solar2025-01-10T19:27:54+00:00Most solar panels are self-cleaning, with rain typically sufficient to keep them clean. If your panels are heavily soiled or your system is over 3 years old, You can contact panel cleaning services, they shall be able to help you out.
Mono-crystalline or Poly-crystalline solar panels, which should I choose?
Team OZ Solar2025-01-10T19:27:59+00:00Most solar panels are made from silicon crystals, either mono or poly. While there used to be a performance difference, advancements in manufacturing have narrowed this gap. Monocrystalline panels are almost black with diamond-shaped gaps between the cells, while polycrystalline panels are blue with a mottled effect and no diamonds. A newer panel type, "shingles," is also monocrystalline and lacks diamonds. At OZ Solar, we prefer using high-quality monocrystalline panels like SunPower, but we've used poly panels in the past and may again in the future. Ultimately, the type doesn't significantly impact performance.
